I just installed the Mac OS Catalina beta. Chrome was acting oddly after the install - not connecting with some site and services - so I deleted it and reinstalled it. The download wouldn't run because the system considers it to be unsigned, but it installed after I overrode the security restrictions. Chrome Browser For Mac Catalina. When the Chrome for Mac download is finished, open the file called googlechrome.dmg and go through the installation process. Drag the Chrome icon to the Applications folder when asked â the last step before you finally have Chrome on Mac. Launch Google Chrome from Applications. This occurs when the copy of the macOS Catalina Installer app used has gotten corrupted somehow. To rectify this, use Catalina Patcher to download a fresh copy of the Catalina installer, then re-create an installer volume and/or retry the installation. The Zoom application does.
How to fix macOS 10.15 Catalina problems
Hello, thrill seekers. Looks like youâve installed macOS Catalina knowing itâs not perfect and despite all warnings ended up here. You are not alone. Weâve rummaged through the internet and collected all macOS Catalina issues known to date. And boy, thereâs a lot of wrongs to fix.
1. Canât install macOS Catalina
Youâve unpacked the installer and now macOS Catalina install stuck on the initial reboot. All you can see is a black screen and even a hard reboot doesnât help it. Though itâs perfectly normal for an installation to take some time (sometimes up to 10 hours), you can try a few workarounds.
Tip: Press Command + L in the middle of the macOS installation. You will see if itâs still active and the remaining time before completion.

Itâs one of those last-ditch solutions that restore deep system settings including kernel information. It isnât something you should be doing regularly but in our case, itâs worth trying.
How to reset PRAM
1.Shut down your computer 2. Press the Power key 3. Immediately press Command + Option + P + R keys 4. Hold down the keys until your Mac reboots 5. Let go of the keys To reset SMC
1. Turn off your Mac
2. Hold down Control + Shift + Option and press power 3. Hold the buttons for 10-15 sec 4. Release the keys and restart your Mac After youâre done, repeat macOS Catalina installation from scratch.
macOS Catalina takes up about 30 GB on your drive. Thatâs unprecedented in macOS history. When you see the 'macOS Catalina cannot be installed on Macintosh HD' message, this sometimes means that there is not enough disk space for the new macOS. Therefore, you need to free up some space on your Mac.
How to free up space? Move your largest files onto an external drive â will take you about 20 minutes. Or if it looks like too much fuss, free up your storage with CleanMyMac X. Itâs a tool that is actually notarized by Apple (shouldnât be confused with MacKeeper).
Youâll easily remove 7-10 GBs of system garbage. Then you can install macOS Catalina on a drive thatâs clean and refreshed.
Here Iâve found a link to a free version of this app â enjoy.
Catalina installation stuck on âSetting up your Macâ screen
So your installation has started but seems to be stuck on the initial screen. What can you do? If your patience has finally run out, itâs time for a mission abort.
âmacOS Catalina could not be verifiedâ
This error usually appears when the download has finished. Apparently, it has something to do with cached content associated with your user account.
The first attempt to download Catalina would often return the same error. But donât give up just yet! Try downloading Catalina once again â this time it will download it from the cached copy on your Mac which will take about 10-15 seconds. Now it should be ok.
If it doesnât help you can also:
2. macOS Catalina freezing upon reboot
The situation looks like this: macOS Catalina has completed the install, and after you restart your Mac it is stuck on login screen. You see the progress bar but it isnât going anywhere. What to do?
As one user pointed out, the problem may be caused by 3d party kernel extensions or kexts. They act as drivers â if you like a Windows analogy â and give access to your Macâs hardware.
As a band-aid solution, you can relocate your /Library/Extensions kexts to a backup folder. As confirmed by many users, this fixes macOS Catalina stuck on reboot problem.
To perform this, you will need Terminal app: Click Launchpad > Terminal Now paste in the following command: mkdir ~/Extensions-Backup && sudo mv /Library/Extensions/* ~/Extensions-Backup/
This command relocates your Library Extensions to the username/Extensions Backup folder. Later you can put the Extensions back where they belong at: /Library/Extensions.
One more solution to macOS Catalina freezing
Generally, Macs freeze when some process is hogging the memory. Some background plugin could be eating up all the available RAM. Here is the method I use to identify my background memory-hoggers.
To get a clear idea what it is, I use CleanMyMac Xâs Speed utility. You need to install CleanMyMac X â itâs available as a free version too. Open the app, click âOptimization.â
This will give you an idea what Launch Agents are working in the background so you can isolate and disable them.
PS. Heavy consumers â this tab reveals processes that are critically memory-demanding.
3. macOS Catalina apps not working
This is one of the macOS Catalina problems that trails back to macOS Mojave. As youâve probably heard, app architecture knows 2 types: 32-bit and 64-bit. The 32-bit apps will not be supported on macOS Catalina, period. Sadly, they are not just some lo-fi indie apps, we are talking Photoshop!
Did you know:Apple states that 64-bit apps use memory more effectively and so will work faster on your Mac.
Thereâs a quick way to count your potentially problematic applications.
To have a deeper look into your apps, where they come from, and how much space they are taking, run the Uninstaller tool in CleanMyMac X. Download this program here â itâs free to download.
Launch the app and click the Uninstaller tab
Here you can see your 32-bit apps and sort apps by âLast used.â
For example, I found a 32-bit video editor, which I didnât realize was there, stealing away 600 MB of my space.
If a particular app stopped working on macOS Catalina, you can reset it with CleanMyMac. This operation doesnât delete any user data and only restores it to the default state. In 9 out of 10 cases this helps solve syncing issues and sudden app freeze-ups.
Choose an app from the list in the Uninstaller (see screenshot above)
Now click on the drop-down menu under âUninstallâ button Click on the Reset button that appears
In anticipation of various macOS Catalina issues, some developers have already optimized their programs for the new OS. Go to the developerâs site and download the latest available version.
Yes, Iâve already told you about CleanMyMac, but it appears to have just the right tool to handle macOS updates. It automatically updates every single app on your Mac. Though it may take some time, itâs a smart way to debug your macOS Catalina apps. Once you get CleanMyMac X, click the Updater tab in the sidebar. Click Select All above the app list. Now, click Update. 4. macOS Catalina is running slow
Quite expectedly, some of the most reported issues on macOS Catalina are speed-related. Some background processes are hogging the CPU, most notably, the fileproviderd process. Thing is, macOS 10.15 Catalina heavily exchanges data with web-related processes, like cloud storages. There are countless rough edges to this process.
5. Problem with Apple ID settings
This happens when Catalina is prompting you to update your Apple ID details. Youâve entered your password but the pop-up keeps coming back after some time.
Go to System Preferences > Internet Accounts > iCloud
Log in into your account and check the list of services that use iCloud.
Tick Keychain and enter your credentials.
6. Sidecar problems on macOS Catalina
Sidecar is a feature that doubles your workspace as you can use an iPad as a second monitor. The common issue here is inability to connect your iPad to the computer. First off, make sure you have iPadOS installed on your iPad. Then, find your Mac in the list of Sidecar-supported models:
If your Mac is pre-2015, thereâs still a workaround to enable Sidecar.
Open Terminal and paste in the following command:
defaults write com.apple.sidecar.display allowAllDevices -bool YES
Did it make the trick? Unfortunately, this combination is not guaranteed to work.
7. iCloud issues on macOS CatalinaCannot download folders from iCloud
iCloud integration is one of those weak spots that produce tons of bugs. Fixes for such macOS Catalina problems are already on the way.
If you cannot download folders from iCloud, download each file individually. Unfortunately, this is the only available workaround at this point.
Did you know: Some part of your iCloud data is stored on both Google and Amazon data centers.
Cannot accept iCloud terms and conditions on Catalina
As of October 2019, this problem has too been widely reported. No matter how many times youâve accepted the conditions, the legal disclaimer keeps coming up. It appears, that the problem occurs because you have more than just one device connected to iCloud.
You should see the Terms & Conditions pop-ups that is now in a pending state. Press Accept.
Repeat the procedure for all iCloud accounts and your devices youâll see in the list.
8. Music Library freezing
The iTunes had been the centerpiece of music on macOS. With its removal things quickly went sideways. Since the arrival of the iTunes successor, Music app, many folks noticed their album artworks missing, Music Library freezing etc.
The typical case is your Mac says its âupdating the Music Libraryâ, spinning endlessly, without any progress. The issue is likely caused by obsolete Mojave caches and the remains your previous iTunes ecosystem.
And all music-related Library caches.
Donât forget to put your music albums back where they had been before.
9. Wi-Fi issues on macOS Catalina
Wi-Fi not working after macOS Catalina update is pretty common. While your macOS is brand new, your Wi-Fi is still relying on some old protocols.
First, try to turn the Wi-Fi off and on again. If that doesnât help you go to System Preferences > Network
Click on the dropdown menu that shows your Network.
Now, try choosing a different network â just to reset and shaken up the old settings
Alternative fix with CleanMyMac X
To fix Wi-Fi problems on Catalina, weâll use some of the tools from the free version of CleanMyMac X.
Check all the networks in the list and click Remove.
This will make your Mac forget your old Wi-Fi stations and youâll be able to reconnect again.
10. Bluetooth not available on macOS Catalina
If your Bluetooth is not working on macOS Catalina, thereâs one easy trick you can do. You should try deleting your Bluetooth.plist files. Donât worry, it will auto-create a new copy of itself.
Now, look for a file com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
3. Delete it and restart your Mac.
11. Safari Extensions stopped working
There is a certain kind of Safari extensions, namely, .safariextz files that have been excluded from support in macOS Catalina. They no longer can be installed on Extensions page and are now considered âLegacy.â
RES, Ublock, and Bitwarden are some of the notable extensions that Safari users will miss on Catalina. Whatâs happening is Apple gradually moving away from the accepted web extensions format (WebExtensions) to the iOS-compatible extensions.
If you are missing your favorite ad blockers or other extensions, the easiest is to switch to a different browser. There is also a possibility that the developers will overhaul their extensions to support Safari 13 but we all will have to wait until that happens.
12. Storage filling up for no reason
So youâve upgraded to macOS Catalina only to discover that a big chunk of free space is missing. Some identified folder is eating up your storage but how can you find it? The issue could be related to Time Machine backups and clones of APFS snapshots stored in different locations.
You can perform this operation safely in CleanMyMac X.
Download the app (a link to free edition) and launch it. In CleanMyMac X: Click the Maintenance tab Choose âTime Machine snapshots thinning As a manual solution, paste in the following commands in Terminal: tmutil listlocalsnapshots / tmutil listlocalsnapshots /System/Volumes/Data
This lists the local snapshots created by your Time Machine. If youâre ready to delete those, type in this:
deletelocalsnapshots <snapshot_date> </snapshot_date>
The operating system boasts a whole lot of new macOS features like Sidecar, iOS apps porting, and major Photos update. To try the features right away, you can install Catalina from the Software Update tab.
However, be prepared for some troubleshooting. The acquaintance with the new macOS doesn't always go smooth â and with macOS 10.15 deeming support for lots of software, many things will not go smooth. We've collected the key macOS Catalina issues you may encounter, along with the ways to fix them.

macOS 10.15 Catalina won't install
This is the classic problem that arises with every macOS release: The installation won't start or you face the 'Catalina installation stuck' problem â when it freezes and you see no progress on the install. No matter how many times you start over, you keep getting an error trying to install Catalina.'
How to fix:

Some users also report they tried to reboot into Safe Mode and take the installation from there; the others used a newly created admin user â but most attempts have been unsuccessful.
We must agree that macOS 10.15 is one of the slowest systems in terms of installation. But if you use the hacks described above and have a little patience, you'll be able to get to the 'Catalina installed' point.

If you can't login after upgrading to Catalina
There's a known problem of failing to login after the installation. Unfortunately, the only way to fix it â at least for now â would be to roll back to Mojave:
One of the things Mac users are particularly excited about is the new Sidecar feature. It comes as a handy solution for those wanting to expand their workspaces. You can either mirror your Mac's screen to iPad or use your iPad's screen as an extension of a Mac.
If the only reason you're here is because you want Sidecar, we have to warn you it might not work with your new macOS. Reddit is full of user reports about the feature unavailable on macOS Catalina. Most likely, this is the issue of compatibility.
How to fix:
Here are the ways to fix Sidecar problems:
Battery drain on macOS Catalina
Many of the previous macOS releases were known for battery life concerns â greedy apps, Safari and Chrome draining battery, or power-saving not working. There has been no major battery drain issues reported by the Catalina users so far.
How to fix:
Just to make sure you don't encounter the problem as well, here are a few precautions: https://treechris732.weebly.com/blog/download-disk-utility-mac-os-x-105.
Apps not working on macOS Catalina
In the attempt to speed up your Mac's performance, Apple is killing 32-bit app architecture with the release of Catalina. This means you have to switch to 64-bit, for good. You might see the messages like this when trying to launch an app:
The chances are it's one of the oldies.
How to fix:
CleanMyMac X can pretty much solve every app problem on macOS Catalina.
Uninstall all 32-bit apps in a click
No more digging through the settings. Download CleanMyMac X and batch uninstall every outdated app on Mac.
While app notarization takes time, you can expect many apps being unavailable after the release of Catalina. This doesn't mean they are gone for good, though. Contact developers or follow official developer announcements to find out about compatibility plans.
Catalina Chrome Can't Download Files On Mac CatalinaOneDrive client problems on Catalina
Due to Catalina's new security settings, Microsoft's OneDrive may have a problem accessing your drive â even if you allow a full access. This is because macOS 10.15 comes with two disk volumes by default.
How to fix:
There are no surefire fixes just yet, but you can try to troubleshoot OneDrive by setting it up from the very beginning. This worked for some users, according to the Reddit discussion:
iCloud problems on macOS Catalina
The most common issue with iCloud is that users are unable to download their folders. You can try downloading iCloud files separately â but that's going to be a pain if you have an extensive library.
How to fix:
The best fix would be using Forklift app for your file management. The app is Catalina-ready and allows connecting local drives, Dropbox, iCloud, and tons of other storage sites.
If you're setting up iCloud, there might be another issue standing in your way: Not being able to agree to the Terms and Conditions. The window will just keep popping up on your screen. An easy way to fix this would be to access System Preferences > Internet Accounts and then click on the iCloud icon. You'll see a static Terms and Conditions window â click Accept and you're good to go.
Replacing iTunes on Catalina
The new macOS 10.15 brought along the end of iTunes and the birth of the new Music app. Basically, it looks the same â but with music-only content. There's a huge difference for people who rely on syncing Apple Music with third-party apps. The new app doesn't support XML file support, which makes playlist syncing impossible across many apps. So if you use Apple Music for DJing, you'll definitely have a problem.
How to fix:
The only fix to suggest here would be to stay away from Catalina if you need your XML apps to work with iTunes.
Music library issues![]() New Music app keeps freezing
There have been reports about the new music app freezing on Mac. Well, it's the first splitting of iTunes, so it's no wonder it doesn't go smooth. In most cases, your Mac will keep showing the 'library updating' status.
How to fix:
Memory usage problems with Apple Music app
Another problem you may come across is the Music app eating too much of your space. One user wrote the app used over 30GB of memory on his Mac.
How to fix:
Apparently, the problem is related to the memory management of Album Art. It is getting better, though. According to user reports, memory usage goes back to normal after restarting the app.
Mail search is broken
According to forum posts, your mailbox might get pretty messy after the upgrade â with no search functionality whatsoever. So if you try searching by keywords or recipient/sender name, the app will keep showing the numerical number of results. The reason could be the new Spotlight integration.
How to fix:
There have also been some early reports about emails missing from the Mail app â so you might want to wait for it to get fixed before upgrading, especially if you rely on Apple Mail.
Slowing down and overheating macOS Catalina problems
So here's the thing: macOS Catalina should be faster than Mojave. 32-bit architecture was one of the things slowing an operating system down. It's gone, and so are the issues with slow apps. Unfortunately, you can expect your Mac go slow and overheat anyway.
How to fix:
Dock disappearing on macOS Catalina
On the Apple forum, people mentioned Dock disappearing from their screen after upgrading to Catalina. The nature of this mistake is unknown â some users connect it to PRAM resetting, the others say they had the issue when trying to work across two screens.
How to fix:
Try Option + Command + D. If it doesn't work for you, do the following:
Internet not working after upgrading to Catalina
If you're putting macOS 10.15 over your current system, you're likely to encounter Internet connection problems.
How to fix:
The radical way would be to clean install macOS Catalina â it's healthier for your Mac and will probably fix the issue. If you're not ready to take a risk, try rebooting your Mac.
There has been a user report saying that Sophos caused the problem of network connection. So uninstalling it may be a fix as well. Mac os x 10.5 leopard iso download.
Bluetooth not available on macOS Catalina
Well, that's a problem. Definitely a huge one if you use AirPods. Deleting your Bluetooth.plist files might be the way to solve this.
How to fix:
Safari extensions not working
While Apple is trying to transition to iOS-compatible extensions, it gradually deems support for many web extensions formats. On Catalina, you'll face the problem with .safariextz files not working.
How to fix:
Just like with 32-bit apps, there's no way to fix the missing extensions. If you can't find a good alternative, you can switch to Chrome or another browser.
Storage filling up too fast
If you notice unusual storage filling up progress, this might mean your Mac captured too many redundant files during the Catalina installation. In most cases, these are APFS files and Time Machine backups.
How to fix:
If you can use a good Time Machine alternative like Get Backup Pro throughout the upgrade, do it. Otherwise, you can remove Time Machine leftovers after installing Catalina with CleanMyMac X. In the Maintenance tab, select 'Time Machine snapshots thinning,' and run a cleanup.
To remove snapshots manually, use the following Terminal commands:
Catalina Os Won't Download
Here's a quick review of all mentioned fixes, which you can take with you:
Is macOS Catalina stable?
The short answer is yes â if you use it right. So before you decide to downgrade back to Mojave, make sure you've done the following things right:
